MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – Monday begins week two of a walkout impacting many Illinois workers as hundreds from the Eaton Corporation are striking at Illinois facilities.
The Eaton facility in Troy is one of the locations where Eaton workers went on strike a week ago. The main issue for the union is pay. They say that the company simply isn’t offering them a fair wage offer.
The International Association of Machinists local 660 is going on strike against Eaton and it’s B-line business. Workers at the Eaton facility here in Troy as well as the location in Highland are taking part in the walkout. There are a total of about 400 workers walking the picket lines.
Eaton reportedly offered the workers an immediate 3% raise, along with additional raises in January and again next October, but the union rejected that offer by a wide margin, voting 226 to 22 against it and instead opted to strike.
A union member says that he wants to see a better wage offer from Eaton. Eaton is a large global power management company that has been around for more than 100 years. It’s website says that the company helps their customers solve their greatest power challenges through their industry leading electrical, aerospace, hydraulic and vehicle products and services.
The company released a statement to the media about the recent strikes. “We are disappointed and surprised at the decision to strike, given the unanimous tentative agreement that was reached between Eaton and the union’s bargaining committee. Still, we remain committed to getting our employees back to work.”
