Job Purpose


Reporting to the Senior Recruitment and Conversion Marketing Officer, the post of Student Engagement Intern (Mandarin speaker) will support student recruitment and engagement, with a focus on the Chinese student audience, by creating student-led digital content, liaising between current undergraduates and staff, and facilitating student participation in external engagement activities.


Main Duties


• Work closely with the College marketing team to create and publish digital content, which supports student recruitment and engagement, on Chinese social media channels.

• Support future student engagement events, both in-person and online, including open and offer-holder days, webinars, live streams and social media take-overs.

• Develop an understanding of key themes, challenges, and opportunities that are of interest to current and future undergraduate students.

• Engage with undergraduate students in the College, collecting feedback and building relationships to support digital content development.

• Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the team.


The internship post is for up to 7 hours per week commencing 1 September 2024 and concluding 30 June 2025. There will be flexibility in how your hours are spread and you will be expected to manage your own workload depending on live activity. You will have a blended work environment, with the role being conducted remotely with some on–campus work. There is a strong possibility that you will be expected to be on-campus, post-assessment period until the end of your contract on 30 June 2025.

• filmed in portrait, 9:16 aspect ratio (1080 pixels wide and 1920 pixels tall)


Important criteria:


• engaging content (show us your personality)

• creativity of approach

• clear sound

• appropriate lighting


Please upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo or any file-sharing site (Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, WeTransfer etc.) and add the link to your application form in the additional information section.

Essential and Desirable Criteria


The essential criteria for the role are:


E1. Completion of at least one year of an undergraduate degree based in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Glasgow

E2. Fluent in Mandarin, speaking and writing

E3. Experience in creating digital content and publishing on Bilibili, Douyin, Weibo, or another Chinese social media channel (either for personal or business channels, including clubs or societies)

E4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people from different backgrounds

E5. Experience of managing individual workload, planning and organising projects or activities independently

E6. Excellent attention to detail with sound proofreading skills

E7. Excellent communication skills, able to present ideas clearly, and comfortable speaking to camera

E8. Evidence of having an enthusiastic and creative approach to tasks and projects


The desirable criteria for the role are:
