Job Purpose
The Alumni and Communications Assistant will provide proactive and efficient administrative support for the Alumni Office in all aspects of its alumni relations and communications work. Reporting to the International Alumni Officer as part of the Adam Smith Business School Alumni Office but working closely with colleagues from across the University (including External Relations, Central Communications and Public Affairs Office, the Careers Service, and the Adam Smith Business School), the post holder will help support Chinese-language social media, public relations and general marketing and communications activities aimed at Chinese audiences, including current and prospective students, alumni and partner institutions.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To manage the Chinese-language social media accounts of the Adam Smith Business School alumni team (eg. WeChat and RED) - delivering a comprehensive communications plan and excellent customer service in order to engage with key Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
2. To work with the International Alumni Officer to launch an alumni RED account and develop an effective content plan and to support the strategy of developing social media channels in RED with the Chinese Social Media Officer from Central Communications and Public Affairs Office.
3. To monitor social media accounts and correspondence for any issues that may have a reputational impact and require a considered response from wider Communications and Public Affairs Office or provide useful insight for University staff in carrying out their activities and liaise with the Alumni Manager with any issues that arise.
4. To support and enhance the Adam Smith Business School's participation in Higher Education rankings, including Financial Times and QS.
5. To encourage and increase participation of current and graduating students in Chinese alumni associations to help maintain and build alumni networks in key regions and support professional and personal development of students.
6. To translate material where necessary/appropriate (English to Mandarin & vice-versa).
7. To support the data management in Raisers-Edge.
8. To assist in any other general duties, agreed with the International Alumni Officer where appropriate.

Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1 VQ 2/3, Standard Grades, City and Guilds or equivalent
A2 Strong Chinese language skills at native speakers’ level and English language skills at proficiency level (e.g. IELTS 7.5, or more than two years of English speaking studying experience)
A3 Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format (English and Chinese Mandarin) and build and maintain relationships
A4 Knowledge and understanding of Chinese-language social media environment and platforms and their applications
A5 Knowledge of the University of Glasgow and Scottish culture
Desirable
B1 Knowledge of Higher Education sector and ideally the University of Glasgow
B2 Knowledge of Chinese culture (including education system and university application system)

C1 Excellent verbal communication skills
C2 Creativity and enthusiasm
C3 Able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with alumni data
C4 High level of accuracy and attention to detail
C5 Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
C6 Problem solving capability
C7 Excellent writing skills with the ability to write well for electronic and hard copy communications within specific guidelines
C8 Good time management and prioritization skills with the ability to deal with a demanding work schedule and produce high quality work, often to tight deadlines
Experience
Essential
E1 Relevant work experience of social media (WeChat and RED) management, event planning or public relations
E2 Experience of working in a team environment
Desirable
F1 Experience within a higher education setting and student experience
F2 Practical experience of video creation and editing
F3 Practical experience of copywriting
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 3, £21,900 - £22,681 per annum, pro rata.
This post is part time (20 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 1 Year in the first instance.
