About Us
As a non-profit, federally owned enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is active in 120 countries worldwide, implementing international cooperation projects and measures in the field of sustainable development on behalf of the German Government, as well as other national and international clients (e.g. EU, private enterprises, and foundations). In addition, GIZ is also engaged in the field of professional training around the globe.
With about 40 years of experience implementing projects in the People's Republic of China, GIZ provides policy advice on various topics and sectors relating to China’s reform process, including: environmental protection, sustainable economic development (especially renewable energies and energy efficiency), sustainable urban development, sustainable transport development, vocational training, law, product safety and consumer protection.
The performance profile of GIZ is continually being adapted to the cooperation needs of both countries – within the framework of the “Comprehensive Sino-German Strategic Partnership” – as well as within the framework of the dynamic changes occurring as a part of Chinese reform policies. In addition, GIZ works as both adviser and service provider at the interface between the economic and political spheres. GIZ is also active in those fields in which German actors possess in-depth profiles and competitive advantages, and where German expertise is in high demand.

Project ‘Tropical Timber Trade Facility’

Job description
The ‘Tropical Timber Trade Facility’ is a triangular cooperation project between six member states of the Central African Forest Commission COMIFAC (Cameroun, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Gabon, Republic of Congo, DR Congo), the People’s Republic of China and Germany, participating through GIZ. It envisages to foster legal and sustainable timber export from Central Africa to China and beyond. It is commissioned by the German Ministry of Cooperation (BMZ) for a three-year period running from 04/2023 to 03/2026. The project works through three principal teams in Central Africa, China and Germany.
The Advisor working in Beijing, China, will be one of the principal interlocutors between the Chinese authorities (National Forestry and Grasslands Administration, etc.), the private sector in China, other stakeholders and GIZ.
Your tasks
Technical oversight of project implementation in China in cooperation with the GIZ teams in Germany, Central Africa and China itself
Technical representation of GIZ in China related to legal timber trade and processing
Provision of technical advice to project and partners requesting such support
Interaction and networking with principal partners and stakeholders, including assuring the coherence of project activities with others
Promotion of due diligence concept, traceability systems of timber products including risk management, verification schemes and timber species identification
Organisation, technical and logistic support of workshops and other capacity building initiatives
Knowledge management
Monitoring and evaluation
Quality assurance of project implementation
Your profile
Master diploma in related fields
Minimum of five years of professional experience, ideally in international timber trade
Proving experience in networking and cooperation management, diplomatic skills
Experience in preparing, managing, monitoring and evaluating projects
Communication and presentation skills, including experience in intercultural communication
Team spirit, familiarity with gender aspects
Experience in working for complex project(s) and structures
Profound knowledge of Mandarin and English, knowledge of French and/or German considered to be an advantage
Readiness for regular business trip is necessary.
