Global Energy Interconnection
Special Issue on Technologies for Improving the Survivability of Power Systems Under Extreme Scenarios
Scheduled Publication Time: December 2024
Power system is one of the most critical infrastructures in a country, thus ensuring its safety and stability is of great significance. With the development of energy transition and advanced technologies, modern power systems have features of extensive interconnection, significant uncertainty, and high complexity. Their operation safety and stability face numerous challenges. Natural disasters such as tropical cyclones and earthquakes pose serious threats to the safety of modern power systems. In recent years, researchers have focused on addressing threats from weather-related extreme events such as natural disasters. However, in addition to these conventional extreme events, a power system may also face unconventional extreme threats such as destructive strikes, electromagnetic attacks and cyber attacks under complex world situations. Compared to conventional extreme events, unconventional extreme events have features of intentionality, strong suddenness, and high destructiveness, challenging the operation safety and stability of power systems. However, there is currently limited research on the threats that unconventional extreme events pose to power systems.
To compressively enhance the survivability of power systems in both conventional and unconventional extreme scenarios, this Special Issue focuses on the theme of the technologies of improving the survivability of power systems in extreme scenarios.
