The Aquatic Chemical Ecology group in the Institute of Zoology at the University of Cologne is one of the leading groups in its field and offers excellent research facilities and an open collaborative atmosphere in an interdisciplinary team (https://zoologie.uni-koeln.de/index.php?id=15920). We seek a PhD student (f/m/x) working on ‚Daphnia - Cyanobacteria - Interactions‘.
YOUR TASKS
- Factorial indoor experiments on the interaction of Daphnia and cyanobacteria
- Analysis of cyanobacterial metabolites using HPLC and HPLC-coupled to mass-spectrometry
- Analysis of lipids using gas chromatography
- Supervision of Bachelor and Master students in the form of practical courses and in the lab (for2 semester hours)
YOUR PROFILE
- Master degree (or equivalent) in Biology, ideally focused on (experimental) freshwater ecology and/or Daphnia
- Strong interest in understanding the interaction of Daphnia and cyanobacteria and high motivation to investigate the biochemical background of these interactions
- Motivation to learn about HPLC, LC-MS and gas chromatography
- Confident knowledge of English language, both written and spoken, and basic knowledge of German language or willingness to adopt the latter
- Open-minded and willing to work in a team together with other PhD students (f/m/x)
