DR. Michael Fübi, CEO of TÜV Rheinland Group, expressed his unwavering confidence in China’s progress, while talking about the opening of his group's new hub in Shenzhen's Guangming District.

TÜV Rheinland, a Germany-based third-party testing, inspection and certification services provider,launched a new operation hub in Shenzhen’s Guangming District on Nov. 1. It’s the company's largest investment project in South China over the past five years.
国际独立第三方检测、检验和认证机构TÜV莱茵集团于11月1日在深圳光明区举办新运营中心开业典礼。该中心是TÜV莱茵集团在华南地区近五年来最大的投资项目。
Covering a construction area of approximately 15,000 square meters within the Guangming Yesun Synthetic Biology Industrial Park,the new hub offers state-of-the-art testing and certification services tailored to sectors that are crucial for the region’s development.
新中心运营面积约15,000平方米，位于光明银星合成生物产业园内，提供最先进的测试和认证服务，为该地区重要产业领域量身定制各种服务。

These sectors, which encompass electric vehicle batteries, energy storage systems, sensors,5G equipment, smart home appliances, health care, and more, underline TÜV Rheinland’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the GBA as a hub of innovation and economic vigor.

He cited Shenzhen’s rapid growth and technological advancements as key factors in his company’s strategic decision to open a new hub here.

The company established its Shenzhen office 29 years ago. Reflecting on the company’s longstanding presence in the city, Dr. Fübi noted the continuous evolution of the city’s tech landscape and the substantial demand for services driven by the burgeoning tech industry.

“There are so many world-leading tech companies that we expect there would be further growth and further demand for our services, and that’s why we need to have more space,” he said.
“深圳有很多的全球领先科技公司，我们预计他们会进一步增长，对我们的服务需求也会增加，这就是为什么我们需要更多空间的原因，”他说。

Highlighting the city’s pivotal role as a technological hub within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Dr. Fübi commended the transition of some local companies into global technology leaders. “I have visited many clients here who started their businesses 20 or 30 years ago. They have been technology followers, then technology challengers, and now are global technology leaders,“ he said.

Reflecting on his many visits to Shenzhen over the years, Dr. Fübi acknowledged the city’s rapid evolution and constant transformation. “What I recognize in the city is that, whenever I’m coming, it’s changing,” he said.

Talking about the recent European Union decision to impose a significant amount of tariffs on Chinese EVs, Dr. Fübi said he didn’t see any significant impact on his company’s business so far. “For the time being, we don’t see any impact of it because the cars, which are good and following European regulation to be ready to get imported, are not stopped right now,” he said.
谈到最近欧盟对中国电动汽车加征关税的情况，富笔博士表示目前他们公司业务并没有因此受到重大影响。“我们暂时没有看到什么影响，因为那些符合欧洲法规并准备进入欧洲市场的汽车，还在继续出口，”他说。
The chairman said the company not only keeps investing in building up new facilities and new labs, but also in people. The company started its Chinese mainland business in Shanghai 35 years ago with five people coming from Germany.
富笔博士表示，公司不仅在投资建设新设施和新实验室，还注重培养人才。35年前，该公司在上海开始了中国大陆业务，当时有五名来自德国的员工。
“Today, there are still a handful of Germans, but we have 5,500 Chinese colleagues working for us in the region,” he said.
“如今，我们在中国的德国人数量还是比较少，但我们有5500名中国同事在这里工作，”他说。
He acknowledged the evolving consumer preferences in China, emphasizing a notable shift towards considerations of usability and sustainability in product choices. “Initially, functionality was the primary focus, but consumer demands have evolved to prioritize usability and sustainability,” he noted.
他聊到中国消费者偏好的不断演变，强调了产品选择中对可用性和可持续性考虑的显著转变。“最初，功能性是主要关注点，但消费者的需求已经演变为更加重视可用性和可持续性，”他指出。
“We have put sustainability on the focus of our action. And when we talk about sustainability, we talk about not just the sustainability of us...but also developing services how we support others, particularly our manufactures,” he said.
