To uphold academic integrity, the University has implemented the “Student Discipline Point System” to record students' misconduct behaviours violating academic regulations and to impose demerit points from the academic year 2024/25.
Scope of the Student Discipline Point System
Firstly, what kind of misconduct behaviours will lead to demerit points in addition to disciplinary actions?
Academic integrity offences: plagiarism, copying, collusion, or ghostwriting etc.
Exam misconduct: various forms of exam cheating and dishonest behaviours, including impersonation etc.
Fraudulent or exaggerated MC applications: abusing MC policy or providing false application materials etc.
Student Discipline Point Scheme
Apart from relevant disciplinary sanctions to be imposed by the University, the above three types of misconduct will also be recorded with a "demerit point" with a "validity period" in the Student Discipline Point System, based on the severity of the breach.
Such misconduct behaviours occurring from AY2024/25 will be recorded in the Student Discipline Point System.
The demerit points will be placed on the student’s records in the university system, and will appear on the official XJTLU transcript within the validity period.
Within the validity period, the demerit points will be accumulated for repeated misconduct behaviors. Once the accumulated demerit points reach the maximum of 6, students will be expelled from the University.
Demerit Point Deduction Scheme
The University has also established the Demerit Point Deduction Scheme.
The demerit points for each misconduct behaviour have a validity period and will be removed automatically when it expires.
Within the validity period of the demerit points, students have the opportunity to reduce a certain number of demerit points by participating in online academic integrity related quiz, and activities to uphold and promote academic integrity etc.
Please note that these activities can only remove demerit points, but the misconduct behaviours will still be recorded in the university system. Repeated misconducts will lead to more severe penalties. Please always be vigilant and do not violate academic regulations.

CASE STUDY
It seems a little bit complicated? No worries, and let's go through a few case analyses:
An UG Stage 2 student was penalized for academic offence Category C in a coursework, and was also found to have brought unauthorized items during the final exam.
Analysis:
Besides the sanctions imposed by the Board of Examiners for the Category C offence, and the Student Board of Discipline for the exam misconduct, the student will accrue 5 demerit points (2 points for Category C and 3 points for exam misconduct), both with a validity of 12 months from the date of receiving the outcome letters of the corresponding offence. During the validity period, if the student commits another offence and accumulates a total of 6 points or above, they will be expelled from the University.
During a final exam, a student was found to have hired someone to take the exam.
Analysis:
Impersonation is one of the most serious violation of exam regulations. According to the Student Discipline Point Scheme, 6 demerit points will be recorded, resulting in immediate expulsion from the University with a permanent record of demerit point value on the transcript.
To help you avoid the "stumbling block" of misconduct behaviors violating academic regulations, please carefully study the latest policies, including the Regulations for Conduct of Examinations, Academic Integrity Policy, and Mitigating Circumstances Policy. Before each exam and coursework submission, take a "self-check" based on these policies to stay away from the “disciplinary red lines”.
Finally, we hope everyone can excel in your academic pursuits with integrity and maintain a perfect record of “0” in the Student Discipline Point System!
