Two Foreign Nationals Stabbed in Attack; Suspect Detained by Police
On the afternoon of June 25, the Suzhou Public Security Bureau, High-tech Zone Division, issued a police report concerning a knife attack that occurred at the Xindi Center bus station on Tayuan Road in Suzhou's High-tech District. The incident, which took place around 4 PM on June 24, resulted in injuries to three individuals, including one Chinese and two Japanese nationals.
Patrol officers from the division were promptly dispatched to the scene and apprehended the assailant, identified as Mr. Zhou, a 52-year-old unemployed man who had recently moved to Suzhou from another region. Immediate medical assistance was provided to the victims.
The Chinese national, who was severely injured while attempting to thwart the criminal activity, remains in critical condition. One of the Japanese victims is still receiving medical treatment but is not in life-threatening condition, while the other has been discharged from the hospital. Mr. Zhou has been placed under criminal detention.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing, and the authorities have vowed to strictly enforce the law to severely punish the criminal behavior.
In response to the incident, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through spokesperson Mao Ning, expressed regret over the assault during a press briefing held on June 25. Mao reassured that both Japanese nationals are out of danger and that the injured Chinese citizen is still undergoing emergency treatment. Mao emphasized that China will continue to implement effective measures to ensure the safety of all foreigners residing in the country, underscoring the government's commitment to protecting the well-being of international residents.
