Recently, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, represented by Minister Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, signed an MOU with China Three Gorges Asia Africa Limited (CTG Asia-Africa), represented by Regional Manager MENA Region Dr. Mohammad Abu Attia. This MOU sets the stage for detailed feasibility studies to explore the development of 1GW of green hydrogen projects in Jordan.

The MOU signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, attended by Yacoub Elias Marar, Director of the Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Department at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Guan Chunxi, Director of Project Development at United Energy Group Limited, and Mustafa Umar, General Manager of Strategy and Investment at CTG Asia-Africa.

Minister Al-Kharabsheh emphasized that after the company completes the initial studies and considering the results, the Ministry will continue to work with it towards reaching a final investment agreement for the project.

CTG Asia-Africa’s involvement in this project is backed by its extensive experience in renewable energy projects, managing 16 power plants across Pakistan, Egypt, and Jordan, with a total installed capacity of 1,390 MW. This partnership not only strengthens Jordan’s energy sector but also aligns with the country's Economic Modernization Vision (2023-2033), emphasizing the transition towards clean energy.

CTG Asia-Africa’s role in Jordan is vital, as it undertakes a total of seven projects, expanding generation capacity through various sources; solar and wind, thus driving economic growth. CTG Asia-Africa generates 193 MW through renewable resources like wind and solar power in the Jordan region. This marks shift towards sustainable energy within the Jordanian electrical energy landscape, especially considering the remarkable increase from 1 percent to 29 percent in the renewable energy of total energy mix between 2013 and 2023.

This MOU is a promising step towards a sustainable future, bringing economic growth, environmental benefits, and positioning Jordan at the forefront of the global green hydrogen movement.
