Day 1
Arrival - Hailar
Today is arrival day! You may take any convenient flight to Hailar, Hulunbuir, Northeastern Mongolia.
In the evening, we can go for a group dinner and get to know each other through a few drinks ;P (optional).

Hailar- Shangkuli - Ergun
After breakfast, we'll have a short drive (~40min) to reach Hulunbuir Grassland.
There, we will hike (up and down about 3km) to the top of a hill where we can see the amazing dragon-like Morigele River winds through the wide-open prairie. You will get broad views of the boundless steppe.
After lunch on top, we will drive (~2.5hrs) to Shangkuli Sahuan Pasture, which is a beautiful Chinese traditional private farmland, with fun activities (swings, a Maze made by haystack...).
After a 20mins ride on a local tractor, we'll reach the entrance of the birch forest to have a small walk (15mins), and then hike (optional) to the top of a nearby hill (2km, 45mins) to see a large area of pastoral scenery with grassland, flocks of cattle and sheep.
Here, the locals wake up super early to make their own tofu, milk the cow, fry chili peppers, make steamed bread or noodle, etc. Most of the local food comes from this huge farm.
After dinner at the farm, we will drive back to Ergun City where we'll stay for the night.

Ergun - Aoluguya - Genhe
After breakfast, we'll head to Ergun Wetland, which is the largest wetland in Asia. It is scattered around the forest and the grassland with many types of marshes, shrub swamps, swamp forest...
From Ergun, we'll drive to Aoluguya Ewenki Ethnic Township (~2hrs). On the route, enjoy the scenery of the primeval forest of the Greater Khingan Range.
Aoluguya Ewenki Ethnic Township is inhabited by the Ewenki people, a reindeer herding tribe. They came from Siberia over 300 years ago and have been living in the dense primeval forest and surviving on herding reindeer ever since.
We're here! Let's hike our way (5km) in the forest to visit a private Rein deer hunting tribe. Hopefully, we can see some reindeers there and get some great pictures with those beautiful animals.
We will stay the night in a hotel in Genhe! Genhe is a small town where a huge river (Gen river) cross in the middle, we can walk along the river to see the beautiful sunset and local old ppl group dancing in the town center.

Genhe - Moerdaoga - Shiwei
After breakfast, we'll head to Moerdaoga National Forest Park (~1.5hrs drive). "Moerdaoga" literally means that "to go to battle on horseback" and legend has it that these words were shouted out by Genghis Khan in 1207.
Today, we'll explore Moerdaoga National Forest Park BY FOOT. It is the biggest national forest park of its kind in China. The forest park is adjacent to the Hulunbuir Grassland on the south, the Erguna River on the north, packed with old and tall trees and numerous streams and rivers.
We will hike (8km) along a broken abandoned asphalt road to go deep in the forest, to fully appreciate the autumn view of this national forest park. Please prepare some snacks for a picnic lunch, as there are no restaurants on the way. The bus will pick us up at the end of the hike.
In the afternoon, we'll drive to Shiwei (~1.5hrs)
Shiwei is a lively small town on the Sino-Russian border mostly inhabited by Chinese-Russian descendants. This beautiful town is listed as one of the top ten most beautiful townships in China. The town and its surrounding villages feature the Russian style in terms of architecture and living habits.
Along the way, you will pass by the beautiful and romantic corridor of birch forests 🥰
We'll stay overnight at Shiwei. Free time in the evening. Here you can choose to go to a local BBQ restaurant or one of the traditional Russian restaurants (not included).

Shiwei - Heishantou
After breakfast (we can visit a nearby bakery for some bread and coffee, at your own expense),
This morning, we'll check the Sino-Russian border river to appreciate the beauty of the Ergun River and have a distant view of the opposite Russian town.
We will pass by Huweier River scenic spot, "the spring motherly river" for the locals.
After lunch and rest, one of the highlights today is to visit the White Birch forest. During this one-hour walk, we might see some cute deers and local hunters' small houses made by Birch tree Bark.
After that, we'll drive to Heishantou (~3hrs). If time allows, we can hike to the top of a hill (half an hour) to catch the sunset on the grassland.
🥳In the evening, take part in a bonfire party and enjoy dancing and local songs presented by local Mongolians. The best part is, you get to stay overnight in a Mongolian yurt.

Heishantou - Manzhouli
After breakfast, let's explore this amazing Grassland
Bordering Mongolia and Russia, the Baerhu Grassland contains a large-winding river valley called Moergele. It is also the home of the Zhanghan Tribe, a race of nomadic herders. In the summer their caravans adorned with colorful flags can be seen wheeling across the landscape.
The grassland is also famous for being an important battleground, on which Genghis Khan defeated the Yuan Empire and unify ancient China.
Prepare to be warmly welcomed by local Mongolians with a silver cup of wine (local Baijiu) and Hada. 😂
Take the time to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the grassland and walk around the area. If you'd like, you can also try some traditional Mongolian activities (optional, extra fee not included) such as horseback riding or archery...
In the afternoon, we will drive to Manzhouli (~3h), a border port city connect Russia, where we will stay for the night.
After dinner (at your own expense), we will walk around and explore this city which famous for its Russian influences.

Manzhouli - Hulun Lake - Hailar
After breakfast, let's head to Hulun Lake, which is the 5th largest freshwater lake in China and the largest lake in Inner Mongolia.
Hulun Lake is the home to over 240 bird species, including crane, gull, swan, one of the few treasure types of birds in the world. It is an ideal summer spot due to the cool climate, beautiful scenery, and fresh air in summer.
Here, you'll get to appreciate the massive grassland lake. If you want, you can do boating on the lake (optional, extra fee not included)
After that, we'll have an all-fish lunch! 🐟🐟🐟(vegetarian options can be provided as well )
In the afternoon, let's hop on the bus and make our way to Hailar airport. You can book any flight after 16h.

Cancellation Policy
If the weather is really bad and represents a risk for people's safety, we could cancel the trip up to 1 day in advance. The deposit would be fully refunded.
Note that we are NOT responsible for flight or train cancellation fees. This would need to be dealt with the airline company directly.
All forms of outdoor recreation (including hiking) have a higher level of risk than most ordinary activities.
