China’s First Durian Processing Plant Set To Begin Operations in June
According to a news report from Hainan Daily, China’s first durian processing plant is nearing completion. Construction of the main building of the plant, which is owned by Hainan Youqi Agricultural Company (海南省优旗农业股份有限公司), has reportedly been finished and equipment installation is now underway. Business operations are expected to commence in June 2025.
Located in the Yucai Modern Agricultural Industry Park (育才现代农业产业园) in Sanya, the processing plant spans around 4 hectares. It is divided into four main functional zones: a sorting workshop for fresh durians, a processing workshop, a workshop for dried fruit production and large cold storage facilities.
Hainan Youqi Agricultural Company manages 800 hectares of land dedicated to durian cultivation with approximately 210,000 trees, making it the largest durian producer in Hainan. According to the company’s general manager, equipment installation in the fresh durian sorting workshop and subsequent testing are expected to be completed by March, while four large cold storage facilities have already been built and are fully operational. The processing workshop is awaiting equipment installation and will include livestreaming studios to boost durian sales once finished. Meanwhile, the dried fruit production workshop is still under construction, with plans to include equipment such as drying machines.
In its initial phase, the plant will focus on producing four key product categories driven by market demand: durian mooncakes, durian ice cream, durian dumplings and frozen durian pulp. These products will be distributed nationwide, providing consumers with a diverse range of durian-based processed foods.
When the processing plant begins its operations in June, fresh durian production in Hainan will also reach its peak season. The plant is expected to strengthen and expand the durian industry’s supply and value chains. Additionally, there are plans to further enhance its infrastructure in the future.
