双11的由来
The Singles' Day or Double 11, is a Chinese unofficial holiday and shopping season that celebrates bachelors, and single people in general.
光棍节或双11，是中国非官方节日和购物季节，庆祝单身，“光棍节”。
Before 2009, the date November 11th had nothing to do with shopping. This day was chosen as the shopping festival by chance by Tmall. It proved a big success!
2009年之前，11月11日与购物毫无关系。天猫将这天选作购物节，结果大获成功！
November is in the changeover period between autumn and winter, which is a good time for stocking up on winter clothes. But there are no official holidays in November to stimulate consumption.

The number 1111 is easy to remember.The date, November 11 (11/11), was chosen because the number "1" resembles a "bare stick", which is a Chinese Internet slang for a single man who doesn't marry and thus can't add 'branches' to the family tree.
数字1111容易记忆。之所以选择11月11日（11月11日），是因为数字“1”类似于“裸杆”，这是中国互联网俚语，意思是单身不结婚的人，因此不能在家谱中添加“分支”。
The holiday has become the largest physical retail and online shopping day in the world.
