The second organizing meeting for the 7th HQF was held by the Secretariat and Research Center of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum (HQF) at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from October 16 to 17, 2024. The meeting was attended by representatives from international organizations, national ministries, local governments, think tanks, media, and other joint organizers of sub-forums, along with representatives of HQF member companies and relevant partners. Wu Zhengping, Deputy Director-General of the China International Import Expo Bureau, delivered a speech, and the HQF Secretariat updated on the forum's progress, arrangements for guest interactions, and on-site preparations. Organizers also conducted a Q&A session regarding the on-site services.

Guiding role of the 7th HQF theme
Global openness, core theme of the forum, is further highlighted. At the macro governance level, policy discussions on top-level design will be further deepened, involving aspects such as the global opening landscape, trends in development cooperation, and international trade order. At the meso-industry level, the forum will focus on cutting-edge hot topics in the industry, implement the guiding principle of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and leverage business practice as a link to form a positive interaction between macro policy design and meso-industry hot topics. At the micro-subject level, the forum will integrate the theme of openness with micro-subjects. A subforum topic on global youth will be established to discuss the important role of youth in promoting openness.
Forum Structure and Guest Invitations
The 7th HQF has structured its invitations to high-level guests from various sectors. Guests include leaders from national ministries, heads of international organizations, Nobel, Turing, and Fields Prize laureates, and top executives from Fortune 500 companies such as AstraZeneca, 3M, Danone, L'Oréal, HSBC, BHP Group Limited, PepsiCo Inc., Rio Tinto Group, Louis Dreyfus Company, Cargill, Asia Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd., Qualcomm, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Savencia, Bank of China, ICBC, COSCO Shipping, China Pacific Insurance, Wuliangye Yibin, Bank of Communications, the Export–Import Bank of China, Honor Device and many more.
Interactive Exchanges and Cross-Sector Dialogue
The forum emphasizes in-depth industry discussions and cross-sector exchanges, fostering "chemical reactions" of ideas. Many participants expressed that cross-industry discussions could expand business opportunities and spur insights. Additionally, group exhibition tours for forum guests will be rolled out to offer a direct display of industry development trends through exhibits and booths, increasing opportunities for cross-disciplinary exchanges among guests from political, business, and academic communities and promoting in-depth and practical discussions on forum topics.
Expected Outcomes of Sub-Forums
The sub-forums are expected to yield fruitful results. Discussions will involve high-level guests and cover key topics such as new productive forces, expand its unilateral opening up to the least developed countries, new industrialization, and the “debut economy.” Apart from the flagship report World Openness Report 2024, 13 outcomes, including reports, initiatives and roadmaps will be released by multiple government agencies and international organizations.
Enhanced Services for the Forum
The forum is designed to be a world-class high-end social platform, with a particular focus on CIIE & HQF GALA. The HQF module has been unveiled at the CIIE APP and mini program, and a reservation feature has been launched. One-stop service is available including registration, information inquiry, and guest interaction. A sub-forum on consumption will be held at the booths of forum member companies for the first time, gathering industry experts, representatives from well-known Chinese enterprises, etc. to create engaging experience.
After the meeting, the participants visited the CIIE Cultural Exhibition Center and the sub-forum venues. A coordination meeting was held at the sub-forum venue by the Hongqiao Forum Secretariat's sub-forum coordinators, representatives from the main organizers, event managers, and service managers, along with relevant media outlets.

Hongqiao International Economic Forum (hereinafter referred to as HQF) is held in tandem with the China International Import Expo (CIIE). Under the theme of "High-Standard Opening up for Universally Beneficial and Inclusive Economic Globalization", the 7th HQF features the main forum (the opening ceremony of the CIIE and HQF), and 19 parallel sessions under "1+4" sections, i.e. the Press Release and International Symposium on World Openness Report 2024 and parallel sessions under Opening-up for Development, Opening-up for Cooperation, Opening-up for Innovation and Opening-up for Sharing. CIIE & HQF GALA
The 7th China International Import Expo & Hongqiao International Economic Forum Gala (CIIE&HQF GALA) will continue to be held before the opening ceremony, further enhancing the quality of services provided.
Facilitate networking and meetings. The Hongqiao Forum Secretariat will promptly release guest information to support mutual networking.
Enhance media interaction. Mainstream media will be invited to the event for scheduled interviews and spontaneous on-site interviews with high-profile guests, to enhance visibility. Photography services will also be provided.
Launch the function of message reservation. The information system of the Hongqiao Forum is optimized and upgraded. This system integrates such functions as registration, information inquiry, and guest interaction. It is now operational within the Hongqiao Forum module of the "Import Expo" App and applet.
