Efficient management of queueing systems is critical in transportation. This presentation explores optimization ofberth allocation at multi-line, multi-berth bus stops. We first introduce heuristic methods inspired by queueing theorythat significantly reduce total bus delays, achieving near-optimal berth allocations swiftly without extensive datarequirements. Building on this, we present dynamic berth allocation strategies employing simulation-basedoptimization and a graph-aware reinforcement learning approach, which further mitigate delays under stochastictraffic conditions compared to static methods. Extending these techniques, we examine the airplane boarding process,applying similar optimization and reinforcement learning methods to minimize total boarding time. By addressingboth bus and airplane boarding systems, we demonstrate the potential of advanced optimization techniques inenhancing efficiency across transportation modes.
嘉宾简介
顾卫华，香港理工大学电机与电子工程系副教授。于2012年从加利福尼亚大学伯克利分校获得博士学位,于2005年和2002年从清华大学获得硕士和学士学位。顾博士同时担任Transportation Research Part B编委会成员、Transportation Science副编委，Transportmetrica A、B副编委，和Transportation Research Part D、Journal of Advanced Transportation、Case Studies on Transport Policy特邀编委。其研究涵盖公共交通系统、多模式交通、随机服务系统、电动车运营、交通设施与资源管理、港口与航运等多个方向，超过80%的论文发表在Transportation Research Part A-E、Transportation Science、Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering等领域顶级期刊上。顾博士主持了香港研资局的1项杰出青年学者奖项目、5项优配研究金项目，和香港运输署的1项智慧交通基金，并荣获Gordon F. Newell Award等学术奖项。
