Why pursue a CPA designation? When the words CPA is mentioned, an image of someone sitting at their desk punching numbers into a calculator rushing to meet a tight deadline often surface. Despite having "accountant" in the name of the designation, becoming a CPA involves a lot more than just accounting knowledge and number-crunching.

This seminar provides general guidance on career development as a successful accounting professional and introduction of CPA path to prospective CPA students. We also have 8 mentors from differentiating backgrounds to provide insights from the accounting industry and various perspectives in career development.

Grace Wang is a CPA driven by a passion for leveraging financial insights to support strategic decision-making. As a trusted business partner, she has extensive experience in spearheading continuous business enhancements and orchestrating cross-functional teams to successfully execute large-scale and intricate projects. Grace's professional journey across diverse industries, alongside her tenure in companies of varying sizes and cultural backgrounds, has cultivated her into a leader endowed with a panoramic view and multifaceted insights. Committed to giving back to the community, she also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian-Chinese Professional Accountants Association Ontario Chapter.

Nico holds a CPA, CA and CFA designation. He is a Manager within the Financial Accounting Advisory Services practice at EY Toronto office. With over 8 years of professional services, his accounting advisory and auditing experience has covered various industries including financial services, technology, media and telecommunications, manufacturing, consumer products and retail.

Wenyan Gu, CPA, CGA

Manager, Tax, BDO

Wenyan is an experienced Transaction Tax Manager at BDO Canada specializing in corporate tax planning, inbound/outbound structuring, cross-border planning, and coprorate tax compliance. Previously advanced from tax intern to senior associate at RSM Canada, Wenyan holds a bachelor's degree from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, a master of Accountancy from Brock University, and a master of taxation diploma from University of Waterloo.

Burnice Francis, CPA, CA

Director of Finance, Rogers Bank

Bernice Francis is a finance professional with over 20 years of progressive experience mainly in financial services. She has extensive experience in financial and regulatory reporting, accounting operations and controls framework. Bernice has been at Rogers for the past 5 years leading the Controllership and Regulatory Reporting function. Her prior work experience includes TD Bank (Balance Sheet Consolidation), Emirates Airlines (Procedures and Controls), and Ernst & Young (Assurance).

Shraddha Bhagwat, CPA, CMA (ICAI)

Director of Finance, &Capital Inc.

Shraddha Bhagwat boasts over 12 years of robust experience in the fields of accounting and finance. Specializing in Financial Planning & Analysis, Consolidation, Budgeting & Forecasting, and Merger & Acquisition Integration, she holds distinguished qualifications, including the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA – Ontario) and Cost and Management Accountant (CMA – ICAI India) designations. Shraddha earned her Masters in Audit and Finance from the University of Mumbai, showcasing her dedication to continuous education and professional excellence.

Currently, Shraddha serves as the Director of Finance at &Capital Inc., where she leads the finance department for group companies. Leveraging her wealth of experience and educational background, she strategically plans financial initiatives and resource allocation, ensuring the organization achieves its objectives. Her unique perspective as a first-generation immigrant gives her valuable insights into the importance of acquiring the right skills and certifications for professional growth and leadership in a competitive business environment.

Established in 2008 in Ontario, The Canadian-Chinese Professional Accountants Association Ontario Chapter® (CCPAA-ON) is an independent and not-for-profit organization of professionals and scholars who are of Chinese origin and work in accounting, auditing and taxation or the related areas, including banking, investment, insurance, education institutions, government agencies, etc. Our mission is to enhance communication in research, education, regulation and business practices of accounting, auditing, finance, taxation and the related areas between Canada and China.
