Peer Mentor

What is the definition of a Peer Mentor?

The role of a Peer Mentor is to guide the freshman and help them learn skills to adapt to university life and make plans for their future. A peer is a sophomore or junior who is on equal standing with the freshman. As a peer mentor, you will learn more useful skills and help others like yourself learn skills, too.

What is the responsibility of a Peer Mentor?

1.Peer Mentors are committed to enhancing the development of first-year students and helping students make a smooth transition from high school to university.

2.Peer Mentors create opportunities for freshmen to make connections with their peers and their community through interactive events.

3.Peer Mentors also aim to support their mentees by meeting with them one and one throughout their first year, guiding and motivating them, informing them about DMU and HII resources, and reminding them to take advantage of special opportunities for freshmen.

4.Peer Mentors are committed to creating a community of connected, engaged, and thriving students.

5.Peer Mentors should lead their mentees to build a sense of professional identity, belonging, and pride.

6.Peer Mentors should complete other assignments assigned by the institute and the counsellor.

What opportunities will be offered to a Peer Mentor?

4.Gain volunteer experience.

5.Win bonus points of comprehensive assessment.

What are the requirements for a Peer Mentor?

1.Students of DMU Houston International Institute who resolutely obey the management of the institute and the counsellor.

2.Have completed at least 1 full year of study with a good GPA.

3.Optimistic, enthusiastic, positive, honest, devoted and ready to help others.

4.Commit to serving as a Peer Mentor for at least 1 academic year.

5.Have strong organizational and management skills, coordination and communication skills and the ability to solve practical problems.
