Destination Details
Fujian Tulou, Fujian Province
The Fujian Tulou are Chinese rural dwellings unique to the Hakka in the mountainous areas in southeastern Fujian, China. They were mostly built between the 12th and the 20th centuries.
A Tulou is usually a large, enclosed and fortified earth building, most commonly rectangular ◼ or circular ⚫in configuration, with very thick load-bearing rammed earth walls between three and five stories high and housing up to 800 people.
TUCKED in the rolling subtropical mountains of the southeast Chinese province of Fujian is a series of giant multistoried homes built with wood and fortified with mud walls.
Fujian Tulou was inscribed in 2008 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Trip Itinerary

Rectangular Tulou Guesthouse
Day 1
Take a flight (or train) to Xiamen. You may come from Shanghai or any other city.
Spend the night in Xiamen. ( M2 will recommend hotel to stay, but its not included )
Day 2
08:00 Time to have breakfast at the hotel.
08:30 We will then take our private bus to drive (∼2h) to Chuxi Tulou Village.
10:30 Upon arriving, we will first hike to the top of a nearby small hill (takes about 5-10 mins uphill), where we have a good spot to see the magnificent view of Tulous from the top and take lots of beautiful photos.
Walk around in the village and visit the Tulou Museum (the biggest circular Tulou in the village)
12:45 Time to hop on the bus and drive (∼30mins) to our Tulou guesthouse for checkin and lunch.
14:30 After the lunch break, we will walk around this amazing village which has dozens of Tulous and will have a stop at the Prince of Tulou (Zhengcheng Tulou).
16:30 We will now head back to the guesthouse! The owner will teach us how to make a traditional Fujian local snack Yuzibao (similar to Baozi but Bun made by Cassava& Taro, filling made by mushrooms and pork, yummy 😋).
17:30/18:00 Dinner is ready! Let's eat the delicious food cooked by our local chef.
19:00 Let's sit in the yard to watch a Tulou Themed Chinese Cartoon Movie (in English).
After the movie, you can even go for a walk around the village to see the beautiful night view of Tulou 🌃
Day 3
08:30 Good Morning ☀️Time for some great breakfast (both Chinese and foreign style) prepared by the Tulou host in the nice Yard of the Tulou 🥟
09:20 WeWill take our private bus to drive (∼30/40min) to see the Tianluoken Tulou Village, aka: "4 dishes & 1 soup" Tulou. You will find out why soon enough 😉
Upon arriving, we will first hike to the top of a nearby small hill (takes about 10-15 mins uphill), where we have a good spot to see the magnificent view of Tulous from the top and take lots of beautiful photos. We can walk around in this Tulou village before heading to the next stop.
11:30 Take another 10mins bus to another spot where the mysterious Leaning Tulou is located!
Built 1308, similar to the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, the wood pillars of Leaning Tulou above the second level slope leaning in different directions, more than 15 degrees. However, the building keeps standing after thousands of years, without any risk of falling!
12:00Time to back to guesthouse for lunch. Later we will pack our belongings.
13:00 We will take a private bus (10mins) to go visit another amazing sightseeing site, the King of Tulou -Chengqilou (承啟楼). Gonna be amazing 😍
15:00 It is now time to drive to the airport and say goodbye to Tulous!
