Fuxi and Nvwa, Mogao Cave 285, Western Wei Dynasty
Music and dance, Mogao Cave 112, Middle Tang Dynasty
The Tang Dynasty represents the pinnacle of Chinese culture. However, authentic buildings, statues, and paintings from that era are extremely rare, making it difficult to experience the true essence of Tang art and culture. Luckily, we have the Dunhuang Grottoes, a historical treasure trove at the end of the Hexi Corridor. Here, you can witness authentic paintings, statues, and calligraphy from the Tang Dynasty. Dunhuang is like a time capsule that keeps the crème de la crème of the Tang Art and Culture.
The Dunhuang murals and statues provide a vivid portrayal of Tang Dynasty life, showcasing Buddhism, music, dance, architecture, and the daily life of ordinary people. Join international traveler and cultural scholar Larry Li on 2pm, August 11th(Sunday)for the Lecture "Seeing the Great Tang through the prism of Dunhuang."As we turn the pages of history, let's journey back a thousand years to the Tang Dynasty and touch the rich, dusty history that has shaped Chinese culture.
