Director of China Office, University of Portsmouth

Job Description
China strategy (in liaison with the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Director of UoP Global and Head of Global Engagement)
Leading business development in China, including direction, guidance and support to University staff on China recruitment/business opportunities
Managing institutional partnerships and existing agent relationships; to include exploring and development of new opportunities for institutional partners and agents
Supporting the University of Portsmouth with creating opportunities for student mobility, including Summer School, Pre-sessional English, Study Abroad, etc
Liaising with academic staff in the UK on new course development, on visits to China and on faculty marketing strategies
Links with Chinese government agencies (including Shanghai local government) and British Embassy/Council
Exhibition and Fairs co-ordination (and attendance, if required)
Planning and managing China Office budgets
Supervising Operation and Partnerships Liaison Manager in running the office bank account and appropriate record keeping and returns for the relevant authorities
Supporting the University of Portsmouth with alumni engagement
Line managing Marketing and Recruitment Managers, Officer and Operation and Partnerships Liaison Manager at the Office
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
Relevant degree (or equivalent qualification) and 5 years’ comparable managerial experience
Professional management and marketing qualification
Capable of delivering results in a cost-effective manner Excellent organisational and planning skills Excellent communication, presentation and organization skills both written and oral in both Chinese and in English Capable of building working relationships and networks, and the ability to work independently in a variety of challenging cultural environments Skilled negotiator and confident in decision making Strong customer focus, committed to ensuring delivery of excellent service standards Ability to operate at all levels of the organization, acting as an ambassador for the China Office and the University, both internally and externally Ability to work as part of a team Evidence of Marketing and leadership skills IT skills: Competent user of Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with word-processing, database, and spreadsheet packages, e-mail, web browsers, mail merge, and electronic diary management Proven track record of successfully operating in the Education sector or related markets Experience of developing recruitment channels such as agent/partner networks Track record of identifying partnerships, projects or other joint activities with Chinese organisations Essential Personal Qualities, Values and Behaviours Stamina and resilience for travel and unsocial hours both locally and nationally
Willingness to undertake a number of routine duties and to be able to prioritise a busy and varied workload
Self-starter, quick to take the initiative and spot new opportunities
Self-Motivated

Fixed term contract with CIIC (renewed every 2 years agreed by both parties)
