In the past few decades, business and cultural exchanges between countries have become increasingly frequent. While some people view this trend as a positive development, others are concerned that it may cause individual countries to lose their national identities.
Supporters believe the globalization of economy benefits almost all countries involved. By taking advantage of the capital, technology and expertise introduced from developed countries, emerging countries witness significant growth in productivity, with numerous jobs created and a vast array of products manufactured. Multinational companies that originate from developed countries successfully expand their businesses into overseas markets, reaping substantial profits and enhancing the prestige of their brands. Culturally, interactions between countries promote mutual understanding. With increased exposure to foreign cultures, people develop broader perspectives, and conflicts caused by cultural differences or misunderstandings have declined.
However, some people argue that globalization is accompanied by cultural invasion and the erosion of national identity. Increasing communication causes countries to imitate one another, leading to similarity between nations and the loss of their unique characteristics. Their specialty food, traditional costumes, and crafted artifacts begin to disappear. People enthusiastically embrace foreign goods and cultures behind them, and meanwhile casually abandon their own traditions and customs. If this trend continues, local cultures could vanish, resulting in a significant loss for human civilization.
In my opinion, economic and cultural exchanges between different countries should be encouraged, as they represent an irreversible trend for the future. However, while absorbing cultural elements from other countries, we should also value and preserve the traditions and customs of our own nation.
