Hans Eriksson (汉斯)
(Claude Debussy, Petite suite)
Maybe the first classic piece of music that Fiona really took to her heart and identified as a music for her, this happened immediately when she first heard it on my gramophone, many years ago now.
This is a small piece of work, about 12 – 13 minutes, and it is a work created while Debussy was still quite young. Written for four hands by the composer, it has been subject to transcriptions in many ways, but the version I like to listen to, is arranged for cello and piano – no wonder, as I am a cello lover.

This is night and evening music. Turn of the electric lightning and instead light a candle. Let your self be enchanted by the lovely, tentative melodies, searching their way through the forest of notes, and sit still as the small boat leaves the shore.
Movements:
1、En bateau – In the boat
2、Cortège
3、Menuet
4、Ballet
Claude Debussy was born in Paris 1862 and died in the same city 1918. He was a French composer whose music represents the transition from late romantic composing to modern ways of musical expression.
Debussy is often linked to the impressionistic movement in art – Monet, Pissarro, Renoir – something that he himself rejected. But it’s a fact that his new tonal language makes one think of the impressionists’ paintings. When criticized for his new form of music, he answered that he could not help but using the notes because they were so beautiful.
