Michael Hirson
Senior Managing Director and Head of China Research, 22V Research
Michael is responsible for China analysis at 22V Research, an independent macro research firm based in New York. He joined 22V from Eurasia Group, the political advisory. As practice head for China and Northeast Asia, he guided global investors and firms through political and geopolitical developments ranging from US-China tensions to China's stimulus policies and regulatory crackdowns.

Prior to joining Eurasia Group, he was the US Treasury Department's chief representative in China from 2013-2016. In this capacity, he engaged closely with Chinese officials on a broad range of macroeconomic and financial issues and advised senior US government officials on key developments in China. He spent a total of ten years working on international financial and economic issues for the Treasury as well as the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Michael has an MA in international affairs and China studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a BA from Pomona College.


Yanzhong Huang
Senior Fellow for Global Health, Council on Foreign Relations
Yanzhong Huang is a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also a Professor at Seton Hall University's School of Diplomacy and International Relations. He has published numerous reports, journal articles, and book chapters, including articles in Foreign Affairs, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and The Economist. In 2006, he coauthored the first scholarly article that systematically examined China's soft power. 

He is the author of Governing Health in Contemporary China (2013), Toxic Politics: China's Environmental Health Crisis and its Challenge to the Chinese State (2020), and The COVID-19 Pandemic and China's Global Health Leadership (2022). He has testified many times before congressional committees and is regularly consulted by major media outlets, the private sector, and governmental and nongovernmental organizations. 

He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the National Committee on United States-China Relations, and a member of the CSIS Bipartisan Alliance for Global Health Security. In 2012, he was listed by InsideJersey magazine as one of the "20 Brainiest People in New Jersey." He was a research associate at the National Asia Research Program, a public intellectual fellow at the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, an associate fellow at the Asia Society, a visiting senior research fellow at the National University of Singapore, and a visiting fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He has taught at Barnard College, Columbia University, and Tsinghua University. He obtained his B.A. and M.A. degrees in international politics from Fudan University and his Ph.D. degree in political science from the University of Chicago.

Ray Farris
Economist and Investment Strategist
Ray Farris is formerly a Managing Director and the Chief Economist at Credit Suisse. In this most recent role, he also heads the Global Economics team in the Investment Solutions and Products department of the International Wealth Management division.

Prior to this, Ray was at various times the Head of Fixed Income Research and Economics, Asia Pacific Division, Head of Asia Macro Strategy, Head of the Global Emerging Markets Strategy team, Head of the Asia-Pacific Macro Product Research team, Head of Fixed Income Strategy for the Asia Pacific region, and Head of Global Foreign Exchange Strategy (based out of London during 2007-11). He joined Credit Suisse in February 1998 from BZW Asia, where he was Head of Asian Economics in the equity division.

Ray holds a degree in Economics with the highest honors from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a Master's degree in Finance with distinction from London Business School.

Wenzhe Zhao
Economist, Progressive Capital Management;President, TCFA
Wenzhe Zhao is an Economist at Progressive Capital Management, helping manage a $60 billion total return-driven fixed-income investment portfolio. Before his tenure at PCM, he was a Director and a Senior Global Economist at Credit Suisse. Recognized for his profound and distinctive research, Wenzhe provides valuable insights to the bank's core clients across various asset classes and geographic regions. During his time at Credit Suisse, Wenzhe authored and co-authored several of the most popular and impactful publications of the research department. His work was also frequently cited by leading financial media outlets. His research interests include monetary policy, trade policy, inflation, financial economics, semiconductors, manufacturing supply chains, labor market, economic development, and geopolitics.
