SME Guidelines on the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program (Trial)

I.These guidelines are formulated using the "Bachelor-Master Training Schemes of the School of Management and Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen" and will be implemented starting in the 2024-25 academic year.

II.The school's Bachelor-Master Tracking Program Committee, currently composed of assigned Associate Deans and the Directors of all Full-time Taught Master's Programs in the School of Management and Economics, will select the "Bachelor-Master Tracking Program" students.

III.All students enrolled in the School of Management and Economics will be governed by the undergraduate regulations of CUHK(SZ) during their undergraduate studies. Upon completing their undergraduate programs and entering the postgraduate phase, they will be governed by the doctoral regulations of CUHK(SZ). Students in the relevant academic phase need to follow the same rules as the regular classes and will be offered the same opportunities.

Ⅳ.Eligibility

Students who belong to the School of Management and Economics in their third year of undergraduate studies, and have only one year left to complete their studies.

Ⅴ.Requirements

(1)Honest, with good academic integrity and conduct, and no record of violating laws, regulations, or school policies.

(2)Students must meet the following academic requirements by the end of the second semester of the third year of undergraduate studies:

- Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) ≥ 3.25; or

- Be in the top 55% of their major.

(3) Students must graduate within the standard four-year study period.

VI.Selection, Application, and Admission Process

(1)Determination of Eligibility List

During the summer following the third year of undergraduate studies, the Bachelor-Master Committee will develop the list of students eligible for the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program based on the requirements and publicize the list for five working days, allowing students to self-check.

Students on the Eligibility List may apply to enroll in any full-time master's program offered by the school.

(2)Application for the Master's Programs

Students must initiate their own applications for the full-time taught master's programs, which will be confirmed by the School of Management and Economics and each full-time master's program.

1.Application Dates：

Fall applications are in September each year; if vacancies remain, spring applications may open in March of the following year. Please refer to the latest announcement from the school for specific application dates.

2. How to Apply：

Students on the eligibility list must submit their applications in the manner specified by the school within the designated time frame, limited to ONE full-time taught master's program offered by the School of Management and Economics. No application fee is required.

(3)Admission Process

The master's programs will verify the applications received and create a recommended admission list, which will be submitted to the Graduate Panel for review; once approved, the proposed admission list will be publicized for five working days.

After the public announcement, the proposed admission list will be submitted to the Graduate School for final admission review. Once approved, students will receive a Conditional Offer.

Ⅶ.Other Matters

(1)Students admitted to the full-time taught master's programs through the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program Pathway will receive a Conditional Offer. To be formally admitted, they must meet all admission conditions listed in the Conditional Offer (including but not limited to tuition payment deadlines, minimum enrollment requirements of the Graduate School, etc.).

(2)Students who receive a Conditional Offer through the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program Pathway may not apply for the Exemption Recommendation of Outstanding In-house Graduates to Postgraduate Programmes. However, they are free to apply for doctoral programs either at the School of Management and Economics or graduate programs in other schools.

Ⅷ.Academic Regulations

The study period and graduation requirements for students in the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program will be governed by the regulations applicable to the respective study phases.

Students who meet graduation requirements may submit an early application, which the relevant committee must approve.

Ⅸ.Study Plan

The Bachelor-Master Tracking Program aims to provide a seamless educational pathway for undergraduate students in the School of Management and Economics. It offers a more efficient and systematic learning experience for outstanding students planning to continue their studies. The main features of this training model are as follows:

(1)Admission without Entrance Examination: Eligible undergraduate students in the School of Management and Economics may apply for any full-time taught master's program within the school through the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program Pathway. Upon approval of their application, they will be admitted without the need for additional entrance examinations. However, Students must meet the minimum admission requirements for the graduate programs at our university.

(2)Accelerated Learning Plan: Students admitted under this plan may take up to two graduate-level courses in their senior year to expedite their graduate studies. The credits earned in graduate courses during this phase will count toward the credits required for the graduate phase but will not count toward the credits needed for undergraduate graduation.

Ⅹ.Exit Mechanism

(1)The school may revoke a student's eligibility for the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program at any time in the event of any of the following conditions:

1.Violation of laws, regulations, or school rules, or misconduct;

2.Failing to meet the selection criteria by the end of the second semester of the third year, specifically a CGPA < 3.25 and not ranking in the top 55% of their major;

3.Inability to complete undergraduate studies and graduate within four years.

After such a revocation, the student will revert to regular program status, and will continue their studies in their enrolled major.

(2)The school will implement dynamic management for students in the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program. Students may exit the program for personal or external reasons in the following ways:

• Students who meet the application criteria at the end of the third year but do not submit a Master's application within the specified time will be considered to have voluntarily exited the program;

• If a student applies for the Master Program through the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program but decides to withdraw before receiving the admission notice, they may submit a withdrawal application to the school, and the school will terminate the admission process for that student;

• If a student does not respond to the admission intention or fails to pay fees by the specified time after receiving the admission notice, they will be considered to have automatically exited the program;

• If students who have confirmed admission and paid fees need to withdraw, they must follow the normal procedures for relinquishing admission qualifications as outlined by the Graduate School.

(3)Students who voluntarily exit the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program or have their eligibility revoked may still apply for graduate programs at the university through regular application channels.  

Ⅺ.Change of Student Status

After meeting the undergraduate graduation requirements, receiving a bachelor's degree, and completing the Master Program Admission Process, students will be register as graduate students at CUHK(SZ) and CUHK.

Ⅻ. Award of Degree

Bachelor-Master Tracking Program students who successfully meet the university's graduation requirements for each degree will be awarded their respective degree certificates on a timetable consistent with those of regular students.

XIII.Students in the Bachelor-Master Tracking Program have the same funding management as regular students, using the school's budget, subject to the school's approval.
