In recent years, China’s blueberry industry has witnessed remarkable growth, marked by rapid expansion of cultivation areas, production capacity and trade volume. Nevertheless, the issue of variety intellectual property protection has emerged as a critical challenge, with frequent cases of infringement posing significant obstacles to innovation and sustainable development within the industry.
On Nov. 16, 2024, the 2024 China (International) Blueberry Conference, organized by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (CFNA) and co-organized by the China International Fruit Expo (China Fruit), was held in the city of Yuxi in Yunnan province. During the conference, the Blueberry Committee of the CFNA was established.
To address the pressing concern of variety intellectual property protection and establish a solid foundation for the industry’s healthy growth, the Blueberry Committee of the CFNA, in collaboration with leading enterprises, has officially released the Blueberry Variety Intellectual Property Protection Initiative. This initiative calls upon all industry stakeholders to prioritize and actively engage in the protection of intellectual property rights related to blueberry varieties.
