Addis Ababa, the main hub
Addis Ababa, situated atop a plateau 2,400 meters above sea level, serves as not only the capital of Ethiopia but also the hub for the African Union and its predecessor, the Organization of African Unity. The city boasts a vibrant tapestry of cultures, with over 80 diverse ethnic groups speaking just as many languages.
Ethiopia, a landlocked nation in northeastern Africa, carries a deep historical legacy and a rich cultural tapestry. From the ancient Kingdom of Nubia dating back to the 8th century BC, to the Kingdom of Axum established around AD, and the rise of the Kingdom of Abyssinia in the 13th century, Ethiopia's history is both ancient and illustrious. Today, it stands as a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, where followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Islam, Protestantism, and other faiths coexist.
Addis Ababa Bole Airport, the primary international aviation gateway for Ethiopia, is nestled in the southern outskirts of the capital, approximately 8 km from the city center. Serving as the main operational base for Ethiopian Airlines, the airport plays a crucial role as a key aviation hub linking Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
In recent years, Ethiopia's aviation sector has witnessed rapid growth, leading to several expansions and renovations at Addis Ababa Bole Airport to cater to the increasing passenger traffic.
Inaugurated on 27 Jan 2019, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport has the capacity to handle 22 million passengers per annum.
