Join us on Tuesday, December 17, to launch our latest magazine issue, “New Game,” as we delve into the new generation of Chinese gamers and the evolving perception of gaming in China.
We’ll be joined by game scholar Dr. Liu Mengfei, founder of Homo Ludens Archive—China’s first-ever gaming archive—and Jesse Young, independent researcher and contributor to The World of Chinese. Hosted by Hayley Zhao, editor at TWOC and co-author of this issue’s cover story, the panel will unpack how gaming has transformed in China. From being labeled “digital heroin” to becoming a source of national pride in some recent cases, gaming’s status in China has undergone a dramatic shift. The traditional view of gaming as a vice may stem from low gaming literacy, and improving understanding and critical engagement with gaming is crucial in today’s gamified digital society, where apps and schemes are designed to hook users. As gamers themselves, our guests will share their insights and recommendations on what makes a great Chinese game.
You’ll also get a sneak peek at our latest issue fresh off the printer, meet the editors behind the scenes, and connect with our amazing community of readers. And don’t miss your chance to play China’s first AAA hit, Black Myth: Wukong, right on-site!
