Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday attended a grand welcome ceremony hosted by Peruvian President Dina Boluarte. Xi flew in earlier in the day to pay a state visit to Peru and attend the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.
Journalists from around the world gathered to capture the historic visit. During the welcome ceremony, as the military band played the Chinese national anthem, China Daily's Peng Yixuan noticed a Peruvian journalist softly singing along in Chinese.
"Nine years ago, I was in China. People sang in the parks and streets on Sundays, and some wrote poetry on the pavement. It was wonderful," said Carlos Garcia Granthon, a reporter from Peru.
