This position is located in the Chinese Interpretation Section, Interpretation Service, Department for General Assembly and Conference Services (DGACM), New York. Under the general supervision of the Chief of the Interpretation Service and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Chinese Interpretation Section, the incumbent provides interpretation for all inter-governmental and other meetings at the United Nations.
Education: A first level degree from a university. Candidates for this position must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for Chinese Interpreters.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten (10) years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations, of which at least five (5) years working within the United Nations system or similar international organization is required. Experience in servicing sensitive meetings is required. Experience is providing accurate interpretation on a broad range of UN subjects is required. Experience in training and coaching junior staff interpreters and interpreter trainees is desirable.
Languages
A perfect command of Chinese, normally expected to be the incumbent's main language. Candidates must also possess a perfect command of English.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified applicants may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
