Mrs Arden

Ms Bateman

Mr Lechado

Mr Hobourn
中学部将表演 Lorde 的作品《Royals》,预备部将表演 Tones and I 的作品《Dance Monkey》。
三名七年级的女生演奏了ABRSM(英国皇家音乐学院联合委员会)7-8级及以上的曲目。
Selena L (钢琴, year 7)
Marco Y (单簧管, year 8)
Spencer H (架子鼓, year 10)
Livia G (钢琴, year 7)
Abby H (长笛, year 10)

Letter from the Headteacher
Mrs Jane Arden
Headteacher
Dear Parents,
On Monday, we were delighted to host a parent workshop focused on the key objectives of our teaching and learning philosophy. During the session, we introduced how growth mindset, resilience, meta-cognition, and collaborative learning are deeply embedded into school life at LEH Foshan. Parents had the opportunity to explore these concepts and discuss a number of scenarios which gave them practical tips on how to deal with a variety of conversations with their child. At the end of the session, parents were encouraged to reflect on their key takeaways and consider their next steps in supporting their children's learning journey at home.
We’re excited to announce that there will be more sessions throughout the year, based on parents' requests, to continue fostering this partnership. I also plan to cover some of these topics in our upcoming newsletters, ensuring that you remain informed and supported as we work together to enhance your child’s educational experience.
Best Regards
Mrs Arden
Reading Recommendations

Letter from the Head
by Ms Bateman, Head of Prep School
Dear LEHF Prep School Parents,
What a wonderful first half term in Prep school we have had. We welcomed many new students into our LEH Prep school family at the beginning of the academic year and it is wonderful to see so many new friendships developing.
Prep school is always Happy, Busy and Purposeful, and this half term has been no exception. We have had many exciting events and activities. We started the term with our job role applications and interviews, we interviewed over fifty students who had completed fantastic application forms. The selection process was difficult as all the students tried their best at the interview. There were some tough decisions to be made by the teaching staff. Congratulations to everyone successful in securing a role.
Prep school was a buzz with characters during our Roald Dahl day, we had some fantastic costumes amongst the students and staff alike. Great fun was had to celebrate the talents of this great author.
It was fantastic to see so many of you at our informal coffee afternoon, I know the teachers found it very useful to put faces to the names of the parents they communicate with. It was lovely hearing the stories about your children and the summer holidays. We look forward to seeing you all in school again soon.
This half term has been exceptionally busy with our Mid-Autumn Festival rehearsals, the volcano trip for the upper key stage and concluding our inter-house football competition, please take a moment to look at the photographs (more on WeCom).
Please do look out for all our exciting events coming up next half term.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our LEH families a wonderful restful half-term break. I look forward to seeing everyone back in school on the 8th of October.

Art
by Ms Hayward, Head of Art and Head of Creative Arts Faculty
Last week, parents, visitors, staff and students gathered to celebrate the opening of our new art gallery, aptly named ‘The Holles Gallery’, after Lady Elenor Holles, the founder of LEH school in London.
The gallery was officially opened in a ribbon cutting ceremony where Mr Steve Banks, Deputy Head and myself welcomed guests, parents, students and staff to view the opening exhibition by our newly appointed Teacher of Art, Mr Jovanovic.
In my speech I thanked Mr Jovanavic for choosing Leh to show his work and thanked our parent donors, HSBC Bank, Epermarket for their generous sponsorship of the gallery. I also thanked the many staff whose hard work and dedication enabled the gallery to come to fruition. The speech was translated from English to Mandarin by our LEH Art Scholars.
The exhibition is called “Moment’s of Reflection”, where in a range of paintings and drawings made between 2021 to 2024 Mr Jovanovic captures moments in time that reflect his experiences and memories of China and Serbia.
As viewers walked around the gallery, they took time to enjoy his artworks and admired the technical skill and diversity of works. They were taken through time, place and memory from farmlands in Serbia to Ming Dynasty villages in China.
Mr Jovanovic’s works are for sale, and he will be donating part of his sales to a Foshan charity for Children with Serious Medical Illness’s. If you are interested in buying any works, please contact the school.
LEH school gives its heartfelt gratitude to Mr Jovanavic for choosing to show his work with us.
Over the coming year LEH intends to show a diverse range of exhibitions including a large group show of Chinese painters and a group show of young contemporary Chinese digital and print artists. Of course, we will also be celebrating our students’ talents throughout the year in some group shows.
The Holles Gallery will provide a vibrant community arts centre for students, visiting artists and art lovers to share, enjoy and learn about contemporary and traditional visual arts. It is an important extension of our school community and to the Foshan and Guangdong region.
Having a gallery at LEH offers our students first-hand industry experience and gives them the knowledge and confidence to show their artwork to the public. Additionally, they will be exposed to a range of styles, mediums, techniques and processes and will get to meet and learn from practising artists.
We look forward to seeing you at our future gallery events.
Spanish
by Mr Lechado, Head of Spanish
In the Spanish department, we are thrilled to see our students embracing the Spanish language with such enthusiasm and dedication. In every lesson, they are eagerly participating and using Spanish as much as possible, showing a true passion for learning. I am particularly excited to see that our cohort of Spanish learners is growing year by year, and hopefully we will have new students choosing it as their A level option soon. Our Spanish curriculum now spans from Year 2 all the way up to Year 13, allowing students to develop their language skills progressively and build a strong foundation that will support them throughout their academic journey and beyond.
We are also excited to welcome Mr Burkle to our Spanish Department this year. With eight years of experience teaching Spanish in the UK, he brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for the language that will greatly benefit our students. Mr. Burkle has joined our team full of enthusiasm and fresh ideas, and we are already seeing the positive impact he is making in the classroom. His dynamic teaching style and commitment to fostering a love for Spanish are truly inspiring, and we are thrilled to have him on board.
We have one more announcement, and that is our planned trip to Spain in June 2025. We have been working tirelessly to prepare an enriching and fun experience in the land of flamenco, tapas and bullfighting. There will be a QR code sent via Wecom asking about interest on the trip and/or attending an informative session. If you are interested please complete the survey as soon as possible. You can find more information about the trip in the poster and the informative session will on Thursday October 24th at 17:00.
We would be delighted to see all of you joining us!
Have a wonderful National Day Holiday!
¡Hasta luego! (See you soon!)
Sixth Form

UAL workshop
This week LEH Foshan received a special invitation to attend a workshop to meet and discuss courses offered at the University of Arts London. Mrs Kirk and Mr Mcmahon went along to listen and were impressed not only by all the information they were given but also by the examples of portfolios and student work on display. UAL is not just about art though. The speaker outlined courses in journalism of art, creative computing and media courses all leading to a degree in an ever-growing work market. A visiting professor from UAL highlighted the benefits of their pre-degree course, which uses continuous assessment as an excellent pathway to undergraduate programs in art, design, media, and journalism. She emphasised the importance of the portfolio, which replaces the traditional interview process. The portfolio should be 25-30 pages long and can be supplemented with a video to showcase students’ sketchbooks without detracting from the main portfolio. The portfolio should tell 3-5 visual stories. The student's voice needs to be seen and heard. Additionally, UAL offers a summer course to help students improve their IELTS scores if they do not currently meet the criteria. UAL is renowned as one of the finest universities for art in the world, making it an excellent choice for LEH Foshan students who wish to pursue a degree in art or related subjects.
Music
by Mr Hobourn, Director of Music
House Music Competition
The House Music Competition is returning following last year's outstanding success. This year it will be part of Founder's Day on 15th November. It will involve the Secondary and Prep School Houses performing one song each. The song for the Secondary School will be Royals by Lorde, and the Prep School houses will perform Dance Monkey by Tones and I.
We cannot wait for the buzz of our LEH Foshan house music competition to return. All students will be working as a team, developing creative and leadership skills when coming up with their cover versions, and developing singing and instrumental skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring the whole school together through the medium of music and our students will dazzle the audience and judges with their talents. This year, we hope that the houses will consider choreographing dance moves to accompany their performances, for a truly spectacular visual and aural experience.
YouTube links of the two songs are on the LEH House Group Team. Students start practising the lyrics of the songs during the National Day Holiday.
We very much look forward to the collaboration, communication, and confidence to permeate around the Music Department in the coming weeks ahead!
Lunchtime Concert
Friday 27th September saw the first of the Lunchtime Concerts at LEH Foshan, the first of many concerts at the school, and the beginning of an action-packed year in Music. Of the seven students who took part, five were new students. I am now getting used to the tremendous depth of musical talent that now exists at LEHF. The three year 7 girls performed repertoire from ABRSM Grades 7-8 and higher. The programme consisted of works from Russia, Austria, France, UK, as well as a Baroque-style piece written by a Malaysian composer. There was also an exuberant and flamboyant performance on the drums of Caravan, by Clark Tracey. A truly international programme, presented with a high degree of musical and stylish communication, and confidence. This was a wonderful start to the school's programme of concerts 2024-2025, and I sincerely congratulate all students for their wonderful performances:
Selena L (piano, year 7)
Marco Y (clarinet, year 8)
Spencer H (drum kit, year 10)
Livia G (piano, year 7)
Abby H (flute, year 10)
Penny C (piano, year 9)
Amy H (piano, year 7)
