Good morning,
秋光为序，筑梦启航。今天，我们在这里隆重举行2024级新生开学典礼。首先，我代表学校，向全体新同学表示最热烈的欢迎！向受到表彰的先进集体和个人表示衷心的祝贺！
As autumn sets in, we embark on the journey of building our dreams. Today, we are gathered here to celebrate the opening ceremony for the Class of 2024. On behalf of the school, I would like to extend the warmest welcome to all new students and my heartfelt congratulations to the outstanding groups and individuals who have been honored!
同学们，得天下英才而育之，是大学与生俱来的使命和追求。对于什么是大学，许多哲人先贤都发表过各自的认识。著名教育家蔡元培先生曾说“大学是追求真理的学术殿堂、启智润心的育人沃土、引领社会发展的灯塔、关注人类命运的高地”。在我看来，大学就像一座金字塔，折射着令人仰望的深厚学养、令人折服的深邃境界、令人顿悟的深刻哲理，在这里我们要去探究人生的意义和价值，更要关注历史、思考人类的命运和未来。对你们来说，大学是你们不断拓宽视野、探索自我的重要时期，也是锤炼精神品格、明确未来方向最重要的人生发展阶段，要通过不懈努力使自己成为这个社会、这个时代所需要的建设者和筑梦人！Dear students, nurturing the talented individuals is the fundamental mission of the university. Many philosophers and scholars have shared their insights on what makes a university. The esteemed educator Cai Yuanpei once said, “A university is a sanctuary for the pursuit of truth, a fertile ground for enlightening minds, a beacon guiding social progress, and a highland that reflects concern for humanity’s fate.” In my perspective, a university is like a pyramid, reflecting the profound academic depth that inspires admiration, the insights that captivate, and the philosophical principles that provoke thought. It is here in university that we explore the meaning and value of life and reflect on history and consider humanity's future. For you, college years mark a pivotal time to broaden your horizons and discover what you indentify with. It is also a crucial stage for shaping your character and streering clear your future direction. With unwavering efforts, you will become the builders that our society and this era truly needs!![]()
同学们，从今天开始，“吉外人”这个共同身份将永远镌刻在你们的精神血脉之中，成为你们终身的标志。这个名字的背后，是学校为国而生的初心和与国同行的担当。吉外是一所有使命愿景的大学。任何一所大学，总是因梦想得以薪火相传、历久弥新。自1995年办学以来，学校始终坚持公益性办学，走非营利性办学道路，坚持应用型办学定位，走国际化办学道路，秉持“一切为了学生成人、成才、成功”的办学理念和“以学生为中心，办最负责任教育”的教育理念，致力于培养具有家国情怀和国际视野、综合素质高的知识、能力、人格全面发展的应用型、复合型、外向型高层次外语外事人才。面向未来，我们将更加坚定不移地践行公益精神，聚力二次创业，建设六大高地，全面建成精品、非营利、应用型、国际化、特色鲜明的高水平外国语大学，进而将学校办成百年名校，为教育强国建设作出新的更大贡献！From today onward, you will have a common identity of "JISUer". This name carries the founding mission of our university, that is to serve the nation and to grow alongside it. JISU is a university with a clear sense of mission and vision. The vitality of any university lies in the dreams that are passed down through generations and constantly renewed. Since its founding in 1995, JISU has remained committed to public welfare, non-profit education with an applied and international focus. We have upheld the philosophy that education is meant to foster capable, accomplished, and well-rounded individuals, with a student-centered approach that prioritizes responsible education. Our goal is to nurture highly qualified professionals who possess a strong sense of national loyalty, an international perspective, and noble character. Looking ahead, we will stay true to our mission of public service, work towards a new phase of development, and focus on establishing the six key areas of development. We strive to build JISU into a high-level, non-profit, applied, and international university with distinct characteristics, contributing more significantly to China’s strength in education.![]()
吉外是我国民办高校的一面旗帜。一所大学的延续和发展，是因为持续在传承、不断在创新。学校经过29年的勠力拼搏、团结奋斗，先后成为第一所获批硕士学位授予单位的民办高校、唯一一所省重点建设高校、唯一一所更名为大学的民办高校，入选吉林省特色高水平应用型大学A类建设单位，实现博士学位立项建设从B到A，再到A+的三次跃升，连续5年位居软科中国民办大学排行榜首位。教育部评估专家组高度评价学校：“这是一所有境界、有品位、有追求、讲究修养、很阳光、很有定力的民办大学，是全国民办高校的一面旗帜”。同学们，学校丰硕的办学成果和独特的文化积淀，孕育出了“会通中外，砺志敦材”的校训。这是你们为学、为人的价值引领，让大家将来无论身处何方、扎根何处，都能汲取强大的精神力量，实现人生无限可能！JISU stands as a leading example among China’s private universities. The growth of a university lie in its commitment to both heritage and innovation. Over the past 29 years, through perseverance and collective effort, JISU has achieved numerous milestones: the first private university in China to confer master’s degrees, the only private university recognized as a key provincial institution, and the only one to be renamed as a university. We have earned recognition as an A-class institution in Jilin Province's featured high-level applied universities, achieving three significant leaps in our doctoral programs from B to A, and then to A+. For five consecutive years, JISU has ranked first in the ShanghaiRanking of Chinese private universities. The Ministry of Education’s evaluation team highly praised JISU, calling it “a university with depth, character, ambition, and refinement—a beacon among China’s private universities.” The rich achievements and unique cultural heritage of our university have shaped our motto: “Bridging East and West, cultivating ambition and talent.” This motto will guide your academic and personal journey, empowering you with the inner strength to unlock your full potential.![]()
亲爱的同学们，青年是时代的风向标。习近平总书记指出：“青年的命运，从来都同时代紧密相连。”当前，世界百年变局加速演进，我国正处在加快推进中国式现代化建设的关键时期，党的二十届三中全会擘画了进一步全面深化改革的新蓝图。你们这代青年生逢其时，既面对无比复杂的挑战，也拥有无处不在的机遇，更肩负着无上光荣的使命，这就需要你们在大学中学有所成、学有所获、学以成人。作为校长，借此机会，谈三点希望。Dear students, you are the future of our nation. As General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized, “the future of young poeple is always closely aligned with the era.” Today, as we navigate unprecedented global changes, our country stands at a crucial point in advancing Chinese-style modernization. The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee has laid out a new blueprint for comprehensive reform. This is your moment, a time when you are faced with complex challenges yet also abundant opportunities, all while carrying the honorable mission of your generation. You are entrusted with a mission of immense honor, and this calls for you to achieve success, gain knowledge, and grow during your college years. As your president, I would like to share with you my expectations on you.希望同学们以立志为先，做报国为民、胸怀天下的吉外人。“志不立，天下无可成之事”。志向凝结着“决心”和“方向”，是人生的起点和航标，更是引领你们攀登人生高峰的不竭动力。进入大学深造并不是你们人生的终极目标，此时此刻的你们，更应该思考几年以后的自己，要成为怎样的人、要成就怎样的事业。而答案，就蕴藏在你们的志向中，它将决定你们的人生高度，更将决定你们的人生价值。历史一再告诉我们，凡是成就一番事业者，都有远大的理想、明确的目标、执着的追求和坚定的信念。“须知少时凌云志，曾许人间第一流”。同学们，明确志向是你们成功开启大学生活的“金钥匙”，希望你们校准时代的坐标与自己的定位，主动把人生理想融入国家和民族的伟大事业中，认真规划未来，坚定成长方向，勇于担当、不负韶华，努力成长为心有大我、肩有大任的新时代有志青年！First, I hope you will lead with ambition and be committed to serving the nation with a global perspective. “Without ambition, nothing can be achieved.” Ambition is the embodiment of both determination and direction and serves as a guiding compass in your life endeavors. Entering university is a new beginning. Now is the time to reflect on what kind of person you want to b and what you want to achieve. The answers to these questions lie within your aspirations, which will determine not only your life’s trajectory but also your values. History has time and again shown that those who accomplish remarkable things are driven by lofty ideals, clear goals, passionate pursuits, and unwavering beliefs. Your ambition will shape the height of your aspirations and the value of your life. History has shown us that all great accomplishments are driven by lofty ideals, clear goals, steadfast pursuit, and firm conviction. “One must set high ambitions in youth and strive to stand among the best.” Clarifying your goals is the key to unlocking a fulfilling university experience. I hope you align your personal aspirations with the nation's and the people's grand vision, carefully plan your future, establish a firm direction for growth, and be ready to take on responsibilities, making the most of your youth. Embrace your role as aspiring young adults with a sense of mission and purpose.![]()
希望同学们以勤学为重，做博学精进、知行合一的吉外人。眼界决定境界，能力决定未来。在人生的黄金时期练就本领、积淀底气是你们的成才根基。你们从中学进入大学，将面临全新的学习挑战，不仅是知识广度与深度的拓展，也是学习方法、思维方式的全面重塑，更有AI技术、人工智能、数字教育等带来的变革机遇。可以说，决定你们未来的不仅是专业知识，而是学习力、思辨力、创新力等综合素质。这就要求你们保持追求真理的精神不能变，探求新知与未知的动力不能变，延续你们寒窗苦读的勤奋不能变，这是你们的成才之要。同学们，大学虽有围墙，却无边界。苦学以成参天树，希望你们传承“自强自律、求是求新”的学风，既要刻苦学习，又要跨界学习，充分利用学校国际化办学优势，在融会贯通中拓展知识半径，在社会实践中锻造真才实学，不断提升语言综合运用能力、跨文化交际能力、实践创新能力和适应发展能力，以实际行动书写中国式现代化挺膺担当的青春篇章！Second, I hope you will place great value on learning to aquire more knowledge and abilities by integrating theory with practice. Your perspective shapes your worldview, and your skills will determine your future. The university years mark a golden period in your life for you to acquire knowledge and build a solid foundation. As you transition from high school to university, you will face new challenges—not only in expanding your breadth and depth of knowledge but also in reshaping the way you learn and think. Moreover, advancements in artificial intelligence and digital education present you with opportunities for innovation. Your future success will not depend solely on mastering specialized knowledge, but on your learning capacity, critical thinking, and creativity. You must maintain the pursuit of truth, keep your drive to explore the unknown, and continue the diligence that has brought you this far. This is the foundation of your success. Universities have boundaries, but learning knows no limits. Aim high, as a great tree does, in the pursuit of knowledge. I encourage you to embrace the spirit of “self-reliance and discipline, seeking truth and innovation.” Immerse yourselves in your studies, venture beyond the confines of your chosen disciplines, and take full advantage of JISU’s international educational opportunities. Integrate diverse knowledge, hone practical skills, and enhance your language abilities, cross-cultural communication, and adaptability. In doing so, you will contribute to the new chapter of youth in Chinese modernization.![]()
希望同学们以厚德为本，做自强不息、追求卓越的吉外人。养大德者方可成大业。涵养高尚完美的品格，是大学孜孜以求的教育目标，更是你们立身处世、建功立业的基石。“玉经磨琢多成器，人间万事出艰辛”。同学们，在追逐梦想的道路上，从来没有一帆风顺、一路坦途，唯有坚定信心、迎难而上，方能行稳致远、有所成就。今年的奥运会，我国的体育健儿取得了辉煌的成绩，在他们身上集中体现了顽强拼搏、超越自我的奋斗精神。体育竞技如此，个人成长亦是如此。对于你们来说，成功道路只有一条，那就是持之以恒、脚踏实地的奋斗；秘诀只有一个，那就是锲而不舍、坚韧不拔的毅力。同学们，改变人生不仅要求真知、悟真谛，还要重实践，培养微习惯。要坚持“天下大事必从细而做”，养成“严、精、细、实”的作风。这些好的微习惯，一定会让同学们遇见更好的自己。同学们，知者行之始，行者知之成。希望你们践行“致远、务实、求精”的校风，将厚德载物的追求融入修身立行的历练中，矢志追求更有高度、更有境界、更有品位的人生！Third, I hope you will build strong moral character, be resilient and strive for excellence. One can only achieve great things by cultivating a strong sense of integrity. Cultivating noble character is a lifelong pursuit and the foundation for success in life and career. Only through persistent efforts can one become truly valuable; all achievements arise from hard work. Students, on the path to realizing your dreams, you will inevitably face obstacles and challenges. Life is no smooth sail. It is only by maintaining unwavering confidence and facing these challenges head-on that you can progress steadily and achieve success. This year at the Olympics, our athletes delivered remarkable performance, embodying the spirit of perseverance and self-transcendence. Just as in sports, personal growth requires the same determination. For you, the path to success is clear: it demands dedication and hard work, and the secret lies in tenacity and resilience. Transforming your life requires not only deep knowledge and understanding but also practical experience and good habits. “Great endeavors begin with attention to detail.” By cultivating meticulous and diligent habits, you can uncover the best version of yourself. Remember, knowledge is the foundation of action, and action in turn brings knowledge to fruition. I encourage you to carry forward our school’s spirit of “aspiration, practicality, and excellence.” Integrate the pursuit of moral integrity into your daily life. Strive to lead a life of greater depth, higher standards, and profound fulfillment!同学们，今天是九一八事变93周年纪念日，铭记历史是为了更好地开创未来。再过十几天，我们将迎来新中国成立75周年华诞。借此机会，让我们一起祝福伟大的祖国繁荣昌盛、国泰民安！凯歌而行，不以山海为远；乘势而上，不以日月为限。现在，强国建设、民族复兴的接力棒，历史性地落在你们身上。衷心希望你们珍惜大学生活，厚植家国情怀，增长报国本领，学好外国语，做好中国人，用接续奋斗成就美好未来，努力成为吉外的骄傲、国家的栋梁！Students, today marks the 93rd anniversary of the September 18th Incident. Remembering history helps us better shape the future. In less than two weeks, we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. On this occasion, let us offer our best wishes for the prosperity and peace of our great nation! With unwavering determination, we march forward, unhindered by mountains or seas; with confidence, we seize the moment, undeterred by time. The baton of national rejuvenation and the mission to build a strong nation has now been passed to you. I hope you cherish your university years, harbor great love for your country, enhance your skills, master foreign languages, and embody the spirit of China. Through persistent efforts, you will create a brighter future and become the pride of JISU and the pillars of our nation.
