Story Six (Lexile 1500L-2000L, 350 words)
Alex and Michael, best friends since high school, have experienced the highs and lows of life together. Their friendship began on the school debate team, where they would often stay up late discussing ideas and practicing arguments. Alex admired Michael’s analytical mind, while Michael was inspired by Alex’s creativity. After high school, they attended different colleges, pursuing separate interests: Alex studied literature, while Michael focused on engineering. Although they were apart, they made an effort to catch up regularly and even planned trips to explore new places together each year. Their friendship deepened when Alex faced a major health issue during college. Michael dropped everything to be by his side, offering not only support but also helping him recover. Years later, when Michael started his own business, Alex was the first person he called for advice and moral support. Both understood the importance of trust and honesty, which has strengthened their relationship over the years. They know that being best friends doesn’t mean always being present physically; it’s about the emotional support they consistently offer each other. Today, Alex and Michael are both successful in their fields and continue to rely on each other for insight, encouragement, and laughter. They have become like family, and they know that as life goes on, they’ll always have each other’s back. This bond, built on years of mutual respect and understanding, is the heart of their enduring friendship

Ava and Lily have been best friends since elementary school. They share everything: their secrets, dreams, and even their worries. While Ava is adventurous and loves to try new things, Lily is more cautious and prefers sticking to familiar routines. Yet, they balance each other perfectly. One summer, Ava convinced Lily to join her on a volunteer trip to a small village. The trip involved building homes for families in need, and both girls were excited to help. However, the work was harder than they had expected. They had to wake up early, carry heavy bricks, and dig foundations under the hot sun. At one point, Lily felt overwhelmed and wanted to quit. Seeing this, Ava sat down with her and gave her a pep talk. She reminded Lily of the importance of their work and how they were making a difference. Encouraged, Lily decided to keep going. By the end of the trip, they had not only helped build a home but also built stronger friendship. Ava realized she had underestimated Lily's strength, and Lily discovered that she could be brave when she had support. As they looked back on the experience, they felt proud of what they had accomplished together. Their bond had grown deeper, as they knew they could rely on each other in any situation. "Thank you for believing in me," Lily said to Ava, who smiled and replied, "That's what best friends are for."↳

Story Seven - C2+ (400 words)
Max and Daniel have been best friends since they were young boys, sharing a passion for exploring and adventure. Despite Max being a logical thinker and Daniel a creative spirit, they complement each other perfectly. Together, they make an unstoppable team. Last year, they decided to travel to South America to explore the Amazon rainforest. They prepared for months, gathering supplies, learning survival skills, and researching the jungle’s wildlife. Once they arrived, they were both excited and nervous. Every day, they would hike through dense foliage, spot rare animals, and learn about local plants. However, on the third day, disaster struck. They got separated during a heavy rainstorm. Max, who had the compass, realized he had to retrace his steps to find Daniel. He knew that Daniel might be scared, as he wasn't as used to navigation. Meanwhile, Daniel, trying to stay calm, remembered Max’s advice to stay put and wait. After hours of searching, Max finally spotted Daniel’s red jacket in the distance. They both ran toward each other with relief. That night, as they sat by their campfire, they reflected on the experience. Daniel thanked Max for not giving up on him, and Max said he couldn’t imagine going on such an adventure with anyone else. The incident reminded them of the trust they shared and the importance of staying calm in difficult situations. By the end of their journey, they both agreed that while the Amazon was breathtaking, the true value lay in the memories they created together and the reassurance that, no matter what, they would always have each other’s backs.
