挪威首相约纳斯·加尔·斯特勒于9月9日抵达北京，开启为期三日的访华之旅，见证中国挪威建交70周年。双方将围绕科技创新、绿色可持续等全球性问题展开对话。抵达当日，首相斯特勒参观由Snøhetta设计的北京新文化地标——北京城市图书馆，实地感受挪威与中国的创新设计实践与对话。Snøhetta创始合伙人Kjetil Trædal Thorsen、合伙人兼亚太区总监Robert Greenwood、中国区总监龚成受邀出席本次招待会，介绍北京城市图书馆的设计理念。

Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre was invited to visit China to celebrate the 70-year Anniversary of China-Norway diplomatic relation. The meetings evolve around science, technology, innovation and sustainability. On September 9, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre visited Beijing Library, a new cultural landmark in Beijing designed by Snøhetta, to witness the innovative design practice and sustainability dialogue between Norway and China. Kjetil Trædal Thorsen (Founding Partner), Robert Greenwood (Partner, Director Asia Pacific) and Gong Cheng (Studio China Director) from Snøhetta were invited to the reception and introduce the library.

Robert Greenwood在会晤上感言：“70年对于挪威国家历史是漫长的，但在悠久的中国历史上却是短暂的。中国与挪威在科技创新方面的新计划将进一步加强经济、环境和社会发展的对话……在Snøhetta, 我们坚信文化是社会发展的巨大推动力，而建筑在其中可以发挥重要作用。”

Robert Greenwood, “70 years is a long time in Norwegian national history, but a very short period in the long Chinese history. A new action plan between our two countries on cooperation in science, technology, and innovation further strengthens our bonds to explore economic, environmental, and social development… At Snøhetta, we believe culture is a driving force in society. We believe it is particularly in the cultural sphere that cross-country collaborations can flourish, and where architecture has a major role to play.”

2018年，Snøhetta赢得北京城市图书馆的国际设计竞赛。北京城市图书馆的设计体现了Snøhetta对于图书馆的变革愿景，重新确立了图书馆在数字时代的现实意义。2023年底，北京城市图书馆落成并正式对公众开放，成为通州——北京城市副中心的重要文化地标，是学习、知识共享、社交互动和社区参与的现代中心。

Snøhetta was awarded the Beijing Library in 2018 through an international competition. Completed and open in 2023, Beijing Library embodies a transformative vision for libraries, reinstating its relevance in the digital age and placing the cultivation of human connections at its forefront. As a key cultural landmark in Beijing's newly established sub-center Tongzhou, the library stands as a contemporary hub for learning, knowledge-sharing, social interaction, and community engagement.

图书馆内部的中央区域形如雕塑般的“书山”，是放松身心、安静阅读或沟通交谈的开放式空间。沿着“书山”的阶梯拾级而上，令人不禁抬头远望。身处银杏树下的“山顶”，则可从高处往下俯瞰，看着“书谷”一直延伸展开成馆外的辽阔自然景观。 

The central open area is sculpted as an interior landform with terraced hills under a vast ginkgo canopy. The terraced landscape and tree-like columns invite visitors to lift their gaze, embracing the expansive view before them. Below the ginkgo canopy, the eye is drawn to the valley of books unfurling into the vast landscape beyond.
