废话不多说，来看一段 BBC 的报道，言简意赅，畅快淋漓： 1）The fall of Bashar al-Assad was almost unthinkable just a week ago, when rebels started their astonishing campaign against the regime from their base in Idlib, in Syria's north-west. 译：一周前，当叛军从叙利亚西北部伊德利卜基地向阿萨德政权发动进攻时，阿萨德的倒台还是不可想象的。这里有些词值得注意：1）fall（n.倒台）；2）rebel（n.叛军）; 3) unthinkable（adj.不可想象的）；4）astonishing（adj.令人惊讶的）；5）campaign（n.战斗、战役）；6）regime（n.非法/独裁政权）；7）base（n.基地）。2）This is a turning point for Syria. Assad came to power in 2000 after the death of his father Hafez, who ruled the country for 29 years - and very much like his son, with an iron fist.译：这对叙利亚而言是一个转折点。阿萨德在2000年他父亲哈菲兹去世上台，其父统治叙利亚长达29年，跟儿子一样，用的是铁腕手段。语言点：1）turning point；2）come to power（掌权、上台）；3）iron fist（铁腕手段）这段告诉我们，叙利亚是一个父子政权，老父亲打下江山传给儿子，父子俩对叙利亚进行了半个多世纪的铁腕统治（iron fist）。3）Assad will forever be remembered as the man who violently repressed peaceful protests against his regime in 2011, which led to a civil war. 4）With the help of Russia and Iran, he crushed the rebels, and survived. This did not happen this time. His allies, preoccupied with their own affairs, essentially abandoned him. Without their help, his troops were unable - and, in some places, apparently unwilling - to stop the rebels.译：因为俄罗斯和伊朗的帮忙，他镇压了叛军，得以幸存。这种情况这一次并未发生，他的盟友自顾不暇，基本上把他抛弃。缺少了外界的帮助，阿萨德的军队无力（在某些地方，明显无意）阻止叛军。这里有几个词用的挺好：1）crush（vt.粉碎、击溃）；2）preoccupied with（专注于某事）；3)abandon（vt.放弃）；4)unwilling（adj.不愿）这句话说明阿萨德之前能保住政权主要依赖外部力量，尤其是俄罗斯和伊朗，但最近俄罗斯因为乌克兰陷入僵局，伊朗因为以色列自身难保，这一次帮不了阿萨德了。（不过俄罗斯已向阿萨德提供政治庇护 asylum。）后文其实还交代了一个重要因素“and, in some places, apparently unwilling”，说明阿萨德阵营军心不稳，部分军人可能对主子早就不满了。内忧外患的阿萨德瞬间倒台，意料之外，情理之中。5）The dramatic changes could lead to a dangerous power vacuum and eventually result in chaos and even more violence.译：巨变可能导致危险的权力真空，最终导致混乱和更大的暴力…语言上，这里的“power vacuum”（权力真空）表示一种群龙无首的无政府状态，另外，lead to 和 result in 是同义词，都表示“导致”。结构上，这句话总结了阿萨德政权倒台引发的后果——更大的混乱。总而言之，这一切还得百姓来买单。不禁感慨：兴，百姓苦；亡，百姓苦！关于叙利亚这场巨变，大家有什么想说的？欢迎评论区聊聊。![]()
