千种本草基因组计划

To maintain China’s leading position in medicinal plant genomics on the international stage and to foster the application of advanced life science technologies in the realms of medicinal plants and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), “1K Herb Genomes Project” is designed to achieve substantial integration and advancement in pharmaceutical research. It is intended to bolster the “Healthy China” strategy. The “1K Herb Genomes Project” will persistently enhance the use of cutting-edge technologies, including telomere-to-telomere (T2T) sequencing, haplotype analysis, and pan-genomics, in medicinal plant genomics research. By incorporating single-cell sequencing, the project will develop a spatial map of active compounds and apply spatiotemporal multi-omics technologies to precisely elucidate the intricate composition of TCM and its metabolic variations from both temporal and spatial dimensions. This approach will offer a novel perspective for deciphering the scientific essence of TCM.


This special issue focuses on herbal genomics at its core, integrating new technologies such as single-cell sequencing and spatiotemporal multi-omics to advance the research of the “1K Herb Genomes Project”.


This issue will publish original research papers, reviews, and Views & Comments including but not limited to the following fields:

(1) Innovative joint research on the genetic engineering of medicinal plants using multi-omics (T2T or haploid genomes, single-cell sequencing, epigenomics, spatiotemporal multi-omics, and degradomics, etc.);

(2) Analysis of the biosynthetic pathways of active compounds in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) based on multi-omics, discovery of active compound targets, and research on in vitro biosynthesis and green manufacturing.

The submission portal will open on 10 October, 2024;

Deadline for Paper Submission: 31 May, 2025;
