Best Friends

Patrick and Grant are best friends.
帕特里克和格兰特是最好的朋友。
They are like "two peas in a pod".
他们就像一条豆荚里的两颗豌豆一样形影不离。
One day, the two best friends stopped talking to each other.
一天,这两个最好的朋友不和对方说话了。
Why?
为什么?
Grant wanted to copy Patrick's homework.
格兰特想要抄帕特里克的作业。
That way,

he could spend more time playing basketball.

But to this surprise,

Patrick didn't agree.

"No way! I can't help you like that," said Patrick.

He said, "I won't lend you my homework.

Friends don't help each other like that.

That's cheating!

That afternoon,

they parted and went their own ways.

In the following days,

they both felt bad.

A few days later,

there was a school basketball game.

Patrick went to the gym to watch it.

That day the two boys made a deal.

They would do their own homework first and play basketball later.

Learning Tip
A simple sentence contains only one independent clause. Look at these:
Patrick didn't agree. (Subject + Intransitive Verb+ Object)
The two boys made a deal. (Subject + Transitive Verb + Object)
Patrick felt awful. (Subject + Link Verb + Predicative)
I won’t lend you my homework. (Subject + Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object)
学习要点
一个简单句只包含一个独立的从句。看这些句子:
帕特里克不同意。(主语+不及物动词)
这两个男孩达成了协议。(主语+及物动词+宾语)
帕特里克感觉糟透了。(主语+系动词+谓语)
我不会把作业借给你。(主语+动词+间接宾语+直接宾语)

two peas in a pod 一个豆荚里的两个豆子,比喻两个人很要好。
be like… 像……
stop doing… 停止做某事
stop to do… 停下来,然后去做某事
sb.spend+时间 (in) doing 花费(时间)干
=It takes sb.+时间 to do
to one's surprise 让某人感到惊奇的是
surprised 感到吃惊的,修饰人
surprising 令人吃惊的,修饰事物
angrily 生气地”“愤怒地",方式副词。
在英语中,表示动词的行为方式的副词叫方式副词,常常放在动词的后面。
quickly 快速地,quietly 安静地,happily 快乐地……
lend 借出-过去式lent
lend sb. sth./lend sth. to sb. 借给某人某物
borrow 借入
lend和borrow为点动词,不能和时间段连用,如需和时间段连用需换为keep
part 分开;分手
go one's own ways 自己走自己的路(分道扬镳)
at the end of 在……的末端/结尾
come over 走过来;顺便来访
hold out 伸出(手或胳膊);递出(东西)
embarrassed 感到尴尬的/窘迫的,修饰人
embarrassing 令人尴尬/难堪的,修饰事物
make a deal 达成协议/交易
