Background
Despite the US government's call for car manufacturers to invest in its domestic production, particularly through incentives such as the Inflation Reduction Act, Mexico continues to attract investment from major car companies, especially Tesla, Audi, and BMW. Chinese companies, especially BYD, are also in their early stages, and MG plans to establish a car factory and R&D center in Mexico. It is expected that Chinese car manufacturers' investments in Mexico will be confirmed in the coming months.
Due to certain reasons, the Mexican government stopped direct subsidies to Chinese companies in early 2024. According to reports, US trade officials have stated that Chinese automakers' investments in the US market in Mexico will not be welcomed. Faced with various uncertainties, Chinese companies are likely to continue investing in Mexico, although they may not temporarily use the planned factories to supply the US market.
In addition, the USMCA stipulates that by 2025, at least 75% of the parts used by car manufacturers must come from North American countries of origin in order to qualify for duty-free treatment. This also shows that Chinese companies investing in Mexico is a good choice for entering the North American market.
Faced with the extremely complex international political situation, how to further promote the healthy and sustainable development of bilateral trade between China and Mexico's auto industry, how Chinese carmakers can achieve high-quality overseas expansion, how China's auto industry can make efficient direct investments in Mexico, how Chinese enterprises that have already invested in Mexico can operate healthily, and how China and Mexico can effectively cooperate to deal with restrictions and controls imposed by third countries are urgent issues that need to be addressed by the governments, industry organizations, and auto industry professionals of both countries.
Purpose
It is through the joint participation of government officials, industry organization leaders, and enterprise leaders from both sides to build an information communication platform, establish efficient channels for problem-solving, and find effective mechanisms to overcome difficulties and eliminate obstacles, in order to establish a good business environment and trade investment platform between China and Mexico, and effectively promote the long-term stable and healthy development of economic and trade between the two sides.

The Chairman of the Automotive Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Ambassador of Mexico to China, as well as industry leaders, business elites, and investment experts from China and Mexico, will deliver keynote speeches and hold roundtable discussions on current hot issues in China Mexico economic and trade development. A networking dinner is served after the event.
It has been confirmed that 30 Mexican government officials, representatives of entrepreneurs, and experts in trade development and industrial policy will specially visit China for this event. Due to space availability, only some 40 representatives from China will be able to attend this dialogue.
